The SkyWave is an analog voltage controlled oscillator capable of producing many different timbres and unique harmonic behaviors, thanks to an original step-based control scheme which allows the user to dial in completely different wave-shapes and levels for successive oscillator cycles.
The SkyWave uses an internal feedback loop with the clock output of the oscillator triggering a step sequencer which in turn cycles through settings at the frequency of the core oscillator, thus changing the shape and level of the waveform output on a per-cycle basis while also staying in tune and tracking pitch like a typical VCO.
Since this behavior is accomplished using VCA’s, summed Wave and Level CV inputs are also available to provide further control over the SkyWave. The full voltage range of the CV inputs is 5Vpp; negative voltage is accepted if the corresponding knob is not fully CCW. Control beyond this range will not damage anything, but the Waveform will not change outside this range and the Level will overdrive on the positive end in a rather pleasing way thanks to hard limiting at 11Vpp on the SkyWave’s output.
Scaffold Expander
In just 4hp, this powerful expander adds Control Voltage inputs which correspond to each Level and Wave knob on the attached SkyWave unit. These CV inputs are summed with the knob settings Wave and Level CV inputs on the main SkyWave, providing even more morphing harmonic control!
And that’s not all: the Scaffold’s resettable SubClock output takes the SkyWave’s sequencing to another level. This output can be normalized back to the main SkyWave unit to allow for repeating waveforms, or to clock other functions such as sample and holds, slope generators, step sequencers and more!
